Operator 16 is the author of more than 40 published LitRPG novels. Their series include The Exlian Syndrome, Battle Mage Farmer, Nova Terra, and Tower.

Operator grew up on the move. The first eighteen years were spent bouncing between a small farm town and a string of military bases, rarely more than a year or two in one place.

In a childhood filled with such uncertainty, Operator found a refuge in stories. There was the run of a grandfather’s library—the hard-riding Westerns of Louis L’Amour, the sharp-tongued romances of Georgette Heyer, and the sideways genius of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld.

On the farm, there were long evenings on the porch listening to old-timers trade tall tales, the kind with a crafty trickster at the centre and no tidy moral at the end.

While stories had always been an escape for Operator, it wasn’t until later in life that they found purpose in actually writing them. In time, it became more than a pastime. Writing—conjuring worlds and characters into existence—became Operator’s calling.

In 2018, they published their first novel, Titan. It would be the first of 11 titles in the Nova Terra series.

The Battle Mage Farmer series, the first book of which was published in 2022, was their breakthrough, and is the series they’re most widely recognized for.

In addition to the four series mentioned, Operator has released books in three others: Dreamer’s Throne, Iron Tyrant, and Soul Caller.

Operator knows that most people aren’t reading LitRPG for personal growth. But they also believe that, no matter the genre, the stories we love go beyond mere entertainment. A fictional hero navigating a fictional world can offer new ways to live our own lives in the real world.

“I’d love for people who read my books to feel like there’s a sense of hope, that there’s a path forward,” they say. “No matter how difficult things get, I want people to know that the world is wonderful in many, many ways, and that there’s tremendous peace and joy available in even the most dire of circumstances.”

Operator lives and writes on a quiet farm on the edge of the empire.
